    Chinese Visa FAQ

    Do I need a visa?
The visa application process varies by country but generally includes filling out an application form, providing required documents, and paying the visa fee. You can find detailed visa application procedures and explanations of the required materials on our website. Our professional team can also provide guidance and support for your visa application.
You should submit your visa application about 1 month in advance, but no earlier than 3 months. This is because the entry validity of a Chinese visa is generally 3 months. If you apply too early, the visa might expire before your departure. For example, if you plan to enter China on July 1st, it's best to submit your visa application around June 1st. Note that some types of visas only have an entry validity of 1 month or less, so you may need to apply about 2 weeks in advance.
Generally, you should apply for the visa in person and handle the fees and collection of the visa. However, if you're unable to do so due to health issues or other unavoidable reasons, and you provide a hospital or public office certificate along with all required application materials including a signed application form, you can then entrust someone else (with a letter of authorization) to submit your application materials, pay the fees, and collect the visa at the visa center.
If a child is applying as an independent applicant, a separate visa application form needs to be provided. However, if the child is a co-traveler sharing a passport with the applicant, a separate form is not required.
Can Chinese student visas be expedited?
Those who want to apply for a Chinese student visa can visit CEV VIP offices across the country to discuss applying for a Chinese student visa with our experts. Alternatively, you can also consult online to determine the best option for you. Some of the most popular services provided by CEV VIP are reviewing and revising Chinese student visa applications. VIP concierge and form-filling services ensure your application is error-free, preventing any delays when you receive your visa. No matter how tight the deadline, CEV VIP can provide a Chinese student visa, allowing you to start your studies in China as scheduled.
How to obtain a Chinese tourist visa?
Are you curious about the requirements for a Chinese tourist visa? You must provide a passport, which should be valid for at least six months after the date of exit and have at least one blank visa page. You also need to provide a passport photo, proof of travel and accommodation, a national ID issued by your country, and a completed Chinese tourist visa application form.
Please note that you must pay a processing fee to the embassy, which is included in your Chinese tourist visa package. The fee depends on the visa's validity period, the number of entries, and the duration of stay. We also charge a VIP service fee based on the speed at which you wish to obtain the visa.
Due to the large number of applications processed by the embassy at the same time, standard visa applications may take some time to complete. However, with VIP, you don't need to wait long. We offer various processing options, ranging from a few days to several weeks, and you can choose the most suitable option for your travel needs.
The photo you submit with a travel visa application must meet specific requirements, including size, background color, and the type of paper used for printing. The standard size is 2 inches tall by 2 inches wide, and it should be a recent photo of you taken within the last month. Please note that any attempt to use a digital photo must comply with standard passport photo requirements (color, plain background) and be printed on the correct photographic quality paper. Visit Passports to see the photo requirements for your passport application.
What is a face-to-face visa interview? Some consulates require you to appear in person at the consulate to apply for a visa. This may be just to verify your identity or to conduct a formal interview. In these cases, you must submit your visa application directly to the consulate. CEV VIP can collect your completed visa on your behalf, but we cannot submit the application for you.
Copy of previously issued China visa(s). If you no longer have possession of your previous Chinese visa you must include a letter to the Chinese Consulate explaining when and where you received your previous visa and how the passport with visa was lost. This letter must be addressed to “Consulate of China, Visa Section”, signed & dated.
Do Chinese visa invitation letters need to be original?
A Chinese visa invitation letter does not necessarily have to be an original; it can be a fax, a photocopy, or a printed copy. However, sometimes the visa officer or visa center may request the original or ask you to provide other proof documents or supplementary materials, or even an interview. So, if you can prepare the original, it's better to be safe than sorry!
What are the differences between Chinese Q1 and Q2 visas?
The main difference between Q1 and Q2 visas is the duration of stay and the nature of residence. The Q1 visa allows the holder to stay in China for more than 180 days and is applicable for long-term family reunions or foster care. The holder can enter and exit multiple times within the validity period of the visa, but must apply for a foreigner's residence permit with the local public security bureau's entry and exit administration within 30 days of entry. Additionally, Q1 visa holders can legally work during their stay. In contrast, the Q2 visa allows the holder to stay in China for no more than 180 days and is suitable for short-term family visits. Unlike the Q1 visa, Q2 visa holders can only make short-term stays and cannot legally work during their stay. Additionally, Q2 visa holders can enter and exit multiple times within the visa's validity period, but each stay cannot exceed the maximum duration allowed by the visa. In summary, Q1 and Q2 visas differ in terms of stay duration, residence nature, and work rights. If you need to stay in China for more than 180 days, you should apply for a Q1 visa; if you need to stay for no more than 180 days, you should apply for a Q2 visa.
Although the Q1 visa allows you to stay in China for a long time, it does not mean you can work here. If you are caught working in China, you may be fined, given a verbal warning, or in severe cases, deported. To work, you must first cancel the Q1 visa, then apply for a work permit from your place of employment, and then go to the entry and exit department to obtain a work-type residence permit. Only then can you legally work here.
    Can foreigners work in China?
Of course, foreigners can work in China, but you must comply with Chinese regulations. First, you need to obtain a "Foreigner's Work Permit in China," issued by the Foreign Expert Bureau (now gradually taken over by the Science and Technology Bureau). Then, you need to obtain a work-type residence permit, issued by the immigration department. If you work here without these procedures, it will be considered "illegal," and both you and your employer will be penalized. So, if you want to work in China, you must first understand the regulations clearly and not become an "illegal worker."
The duration of China's work visas is particular. Generally, B-class talents can obtain 1-2 year work visas, while top-tier A-class talents can even get 3-5 year visas! This is much longer than visa durations in other countries. Now, there are fast and slow processes for foreigners to obtain a work visa in China, and you can choose according to your schedule. If you are not in China now, or you are in China but have plans to exit the country, then choose the fast process.
Do American children and infants need to carry their own U.S. passports?
U.S. citizens under the age of 16 must have their own passports for international travel by air. You cannot represent other family members in your own passport. Now, infants must also have their own passports. For details, please visit the Children's Passport page.
CEV VIP offers services for children's passports by submitting the appropriate documents on behalf of your child to the U.S. Department of State. This eliminates the need for you to directly access, communicate, and correspond with the State Department. For details, please visit the Children's Passport page. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please consult the local consulate of your country for details on children's passports.
To apply for a child's passport, your child must be 15 years old or younger and recognized as a U.S. citizen. For more information, please visit the Children's Passport page.
CEV VIP can process your child's passport in as little as one day. Our children's passport service supports various processing times to meet your specific travel needs. Please visit the Children's Passport page to determine the best processing time for your child's passport order.
Passports issued to children 15 years old or younger are valid for 5 years from the date of issue. All passports issued to individuals 16 years old or above are valid for 10 years from the date of issue. For details, please visit the Children's Passport page.
Travel visa requirements are the same for all travelers, regardless of age. Please visit our Visa section to understand the specific travel visa requirements for your child.
Since we are no longer married, the passport application requirements for a child of divorced parents may vary based on the specifics of the custody arrangement. Therefore, each application may have different processing requirements. To get more information about your specific parental responsibility requirements, please consult with CEV VIP travel visa and passport experts.
For children in the care or placement of foster parents or legal guardians, there are additional legal requirements. All children 15 years old or younger, regardless of the situation, must have an adult sign their child's passport application. Please contact CEV VIP travel visa and passport experts for details on specific guardianship information.
